The 28e edition of the Rallye Aicha des Gazelles takes place in the Moroccan desert at the moment. It has started on the 17th of March 2018 in Nice (France) and will end in Essaouira (Morocco) on the 31th of March 2018.
This unique rallye exists since 1990 and it is the first off-road one entirely for women. The race does not include any modern navigation equipment, instead, every team have at their disposal paper maps and a compass.
Plus, this race is more like an orientation race than a speed race. The objective is indeed to finish it with the less kilometers registered to win. The uniqueness of this event is further made by its certification ISO 14001, that confirms the good environmental management of the organization. It comprises 165 teams of 2 women each coming from all around the world.
This event does not only offer an access to the mechanic sports to women, but also promotes sustainability. In fact, the organisation also has its own association « Cœur de Gazelle », dedicated to give medical care and different sort of equipment to the most remote population and fight against analphabetism with them. Moreover, certain teams dedicate their participation to sick children or to raise awareness on several topics such as sustainability thanks to caritative associations.
Besides, the race limits the CO² emissions not only because the goal is to make the shortest distance possible but also because each emission is financially compensated to the Yann Artus Bertrand’s association: “Action Carbone Solidaire”.
Different kind of vehicle are taking part to the Rallye Aicha des Gazelles : Buggy, quad-bikes and cars. This year, 6 electric cars participate and contribute to the respect of the environment.
WallboxOk, company producing charging equipment for electric cars, participate in its way by providing them portable charger.
