Charging solution for electric vehicle. F.A.Q.

If you are considering acquiring an electric vehicle (E.V.)  with a charging solution, you must want to have a look at the following questions. In order to take a good decision, we detail here the most frequently asked questions by our users before getting their charge point.

  1. The different charging modes

The charging modes are linked to the level of communication between the vehicle and             the charge point. It is also linked to which kind of use is made by the user.  It is indeed possible to program it, to check the stages of charge, to stop it, to resume it or to reduce the intensity of the charge to regulate the electric consumption.

  1. What is a WallBox?

This term relates to a physical system that proportions the electric-supply to the electric vehicle plugged-in with a cable. This device is powered by an alternative power-supply in a single-phased mode or a three-phased mode that regroups numerous components to make the whole a complete charging system.

The WallBox or charging point is installed on the wall of your own garage where the electric installation is possible. The device receives the energy directly from home or the garage. Several types of protection are available with a WallBox such as a card reader or a pre-paid card system.

  1. How much does it cost to charge an electric car?

In Spain, there is a period of the day when it is cheaper to recharge. Here, between 1:00 am and 7:00 am, the tariff:“Voluntary price for small consumer” is usually the most economical one although the rate is not fixed. For the clients of this tariff, the Government fixes the rate and change it all over the year. For the other clients, it depends on their energy providers.

In any case, the cost of the charge depends on two factors: The contracted tariff, and the maximum capacity of the vehicle’s battery.

Usually, every kilowatt per hour has a changing price from 0.06€ at night to 0.15 during the day. To calculate it, you have to multiply the price of the kilowatt per hour with the number maximum of kilowatt that the battery can stock.

  1. EV tariff (SuperValle)

EV users in Spain, can contract a special tariff names SuperValle. What is the price with this one? It depends on the hour of the day. In this case, the cost follows the contracted tariff with the following hours:

  • From 1:00 pm to 11 :00 pm (P1): This period is the most expensive one but it lasts 10 hours.
  • From 11 :00 pm to 1 :00 am and from 7 :00am to 1:00 pm (P2): This period has an average cost with a total of 8 hours.
  • From 1 :00 am to 7 :00 am (P3): This period is the cheapest but lasts 6 hours.
  1. What is the real autonomy of the electric cars?

In Europe, the electric cars ‘autonomy is ruled by the NEDC (New European driving cycle). This system shows favorable results with the commercial register and this is why the autonomies approved by the organization are not the real ones. We can usually say that the real autonomy of an electric car represents 35% less than the accredited one.

  1. How long does it take to charge an electric vehicle?

  1. Can we charge our EV in a shared garage?

Yes, we can. The charge points installers offer various solutions for shared places.

  1. What norms are regulating the EV charges?

The legislation is various and increasing according to the evolution of the market. Legislative measures still try to promote the use of the electric vehicle.

  1. How can we distinguish ourselves with an electric vehicle?

One of the big advantage is that EVs do not emit polluting gases. For that reason, the users can freely drive though the big cities likes London, Paris or Madrid where the circulation of the cars is limited according to their pollution emissions.

  1. Can I install a charge point in a garage I share with other persons without asking for permissions?

Yes, in the condition that the manager of the propriety is aware of your initiative.

  1. Is it possible to get a fast-electric charge point at home?

Yes, it is possible but no recommended at all because of its cost. The fast charging usually is done in case of emergency and is not a habit. In fact, a too frequent use of that kind of recharge can limit the duration of the battery.
